Trinity Roots, New Zealand
From the tail of the fish to the tip, Aotearoa has been swept up in the music of TrinityRoots - a boil-up of ingredients that seemed to embody the very essence of our home, land and sea, and serve as an invocation to that same environment. The influences that the group brought together joined the dots between head-nodding reggae, slow-burning funk and jazz adventurism to form undeniably indigenous waiata, unconstrained by genre boxes.
Today, the group have found a renewed vigour for purpose, that by their own admission, they were not ready for at the time of their break-up in 2005, however there is much to be said for time apart being the catalyst of valued appreciation. The recent release of their 3rd Studio album –'Citizen' has seen the band playing International Festivals (WOMAD NZ 2015, Celtic Connections UK, Splore, Sundaise) as well as intensive tours throughout Australia & NZ to sell-out audiences.
